I was wondering if anyone had any comments on the meningitis vaccine that is being requested for 15-18 year olders as well as college students?
Hi Denise,
Thank you for your question and for visiting HolisticAnarchy.com
As you may know, there have been various outbreaks of meningococcal meningitis in colleges and universities around the country.
Nonetheless, there are also many questions about whether the meningococcal vaccine is safe or whether it is protective against getting the illness.
If you are concerned about the vaccine, I ask you to read the package insert of ingredients, and look for safety studies on how the ingredients affect our children’s bodies, or how the ingredients interact in or get eliminated from our children’s bodies. Don’t be surprised if you fail to find these studies…….
It’s also important to ask, how do people get meningitis? Most people believe it’s because we catch an organism that other people carry, that we don’t have in our bodies. In fact, we live with most of the organisms in our bodies that we vaccinate against, even those organisms that are involved in the illness called meningitis. And, more specifically, meningitis happens because of a change in the relationship between the organisms that live in our bodies, and the immune system we have that’s built to protect us from the overgrowth and invasion of the organism already colonized in our bodies.
Hope this helps.
Thank you Dr. Larry,
What are you thoughts on meningitis vaccination for college students who will be dorming?
